BEST THINGS TO DO AT SINGAPORE AIRPORT
Inside Singapore Airport, a WHOLE WORLD of fun awaits!
If you have an overnight layover in Singapore, or even an 8 hour layover in Singapore, don’t leave the airport!
There’s lots of free things to do in Changi airport for kids and families
Did you know you can swim at Changi airport?
Or walk through a Butterfly garden?
Or ride the World’s Tallest Slide in an airport?
YOU CAN.
Let’s start with Terminal 4 – Jewel at Changi Airport.
When Singapore Airport needed to expand Terminal 1 to cater for the growing number of visitors to Singapore, they did it in style and created The Jewel at Changi Airport.
Now a shopping and dining destination in it’s own right, it’s the JEWEL ATTRACTIONS for kids that captured our attention.
Jewel at Changi airport is a architect-designed indoor sanctuary, the newly built centrepiece of Changi airport Terminal 1 in Singapore.
The Jewel development was initially visualised as an airport extension to expand the capacity of Terminal 1, but quickly evolved into the concept where Jewel would be a complete Singapore destination and attraction on it’s own.
Not just an airport terminal, but a retail, dining, attractions and tourist hub for visitors from all over the world.
BEST THINGS TO DO AT JEWEL CHANGI AIRPORT
No.1: The Jewel Garden
The centrepiece of Jewel at Changi airport is the tallest indoor waterfall in the world, the “Rain Vortex” in the Forest Valley.
It’s 40 METRES HIGH.
You can’t miss it.
Visit at night to see the light and sound show on the waterfall at Changi airport.
Starting at 7.30pm, and running hourly until 11.30pm, the water becomes the screen for magical light projections.
It’s one of those must see attractions in Singapore.
While you are there, spend time wandering the trails that meander through this indoor green space filled with more than 900 trees and palms, and over 60,000 shrubs.
The whole thing is a spectacular ode to nature.
Best Jewel Changi Airport Attractions Pass
There’s 13 individual attractions at Canopy Park, the indoor fun park at Changi airport which is on the TOP level of Jewel.
Entrance to Canopy Park is not cheap, but it’s worth it.
Don’t miss the giant SKY NETS!
How to buy tickets for Jewel attractions
Save with the Jewel Singapore Airport Bundle Tickets

You can buy individual tickets, or bundle tickets.
Hot tip: The cheapest way to try Jewel attractions is an all-access pass.

But IT’S WORTH IT!
There’s attractions here that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Plus photo opportunities to die for!

A special mention must go to this world first creation – the Sky Nets at Changi.
As you can see, there’s two options of getting on the sky nets.
You can book tickets at Jewel Changi airport playground to walk the nets, or bounce on the nets, or both!
We recommend both.
These two attractions are very popular, with limited time slots to keep numbers in check, so don’t delay.
Buy in advance, so you don’t miss out.
Hot tip: Ride the free Changi skytrain through Jewel Canopy Park at least once for a birds eye view of the Jewel gardens.
No.2: Bouncing Sky Nets at Jewel Changi
The Bounce Sky Nets are a giant indoor net trampoline, where you can hop, skip, and bounce jump up to 8 metres above the Canopy Park.
Be prepared for a workout.
You’ll be red faced before long, and sweaty!
Head straight to the Bounce Sky net in Changi Jewel.
The 250 metre long Bouncing Sky Net is a giant suspended trampoline above the canopy park.
At one point, you are 8 metres above ground!
No.3: Walking Sky Nets at Jewel Changi
The Walking Sky Nets is a giant walkway of rope nets – a giant spider web in the sky.
It’s even higher up than the bounce nets.
A colossal 25 metres above ground!
And at one point, YOU WILL KNOW IT! (I won’t spoil the surprise!)
Stretched as a web of rope above the Canopy park, this is a fun unique experience for kids and adults alike.
Do book tickets to at least one of these attractions.
Kids must be taller than 110cm to enter.
Skynet Ticket price includes admission to Canopy Park, which also means you can visit these attractions too.
- The discovery slides
- Foggy bowls
- Petal garden, and
- Topiary walk.
No.4: Changi Experience Studio
Don’t miss the Gardens of Harmony, where you can make music with your arms.
This multiplayer game will set your heart, and soul on fire!
We’ve never done anything like it.
Gardens of Harmony at Changi Airport
Imagine standing in a room, dancing to the music with your arms and legs, and watching nature-inspired light and sound projections come to life!
Expect it to be 100 times better than it sounds.
Changi experience studio is full of:
- projection experiences
- hands-on interactive games, and
- shows where you join in.
There’s over 20 different activities in 10 themed areas to try.
Ned and Jack loved the one where you are sent on a quest to collect all of the airport trolleys.
Now that’s more of a challenge than it sounds.
Airport trolley collections in a lineup get out of hand pretty quickly, and are very hard to steer!
Smile Challenge at Jewel Changi Experience Studio
But the best one is the SMILE CHALLENGE.
Line up in front of the camera, next to a competitor.
Both challengers listen for the countdown, smile their BIGGEST smile in time with the click of the camera, and then wait to find out their score on the leaderboard.
Be prepared to play this game for an hour or more!
Guess who was the winner with this grin???
1st position!
The boys were demoralized by their defeat, especially as they tried again, and again, and again!
No.4: Discovery Slides
Here’s a playground in Singapore with a difference.
This giant bean-shaped interactive art piece has a purpose – encouraging kids to play.
Kids over 110cm can:
- go down the freefall drop slide
- slide down the tallest tunnel slide
- slip down the duo slide
Discovery Slides opening hours
Discovery Slides are open daily from 10am to midnight.
(1am close on Friday, Saturday and public holiday eves)
Hot tip: Playgrounds at Jewel Changi Airport
Between the foggy bowls and the Discovery slides, at the entrance to the public bathrooms, you’ll find this toddler play area.
There’s tables and chairs for kids, a tv screen playing cartoons, and a small wooden slide.
Plus there’s water faucets (water bubblers) out front.
If you are looking for somewhere to take a quick snack break, or just need a bit of time out from the busyness of Canopy Park, this is the spot.
No. 5: Mirror Maze
No visit to Changi is done without a scramble through the magic mirror maze.
Be warned.

Get up close to the magnificent Jewel mandala-shaped roofline as you wander along the Canopy Bridge, 23 metres above the Canopy park.

Bring your camera.

The colours are mesmerising, and the displays are out of this world.
Open daily, 10am to midnight.
No. 12: Shiseido Forest Valley
Head off on one of the walking trails in Forest Valley at Changi.
Look out for the stairs that take you past a rocky waterfall wall, up to the Canopy Park top level.
It’s unbelievable to think you are walking in a forest in the middle of an airport!
Open daily, 24 hours.
No.13: The HSBC Rain Vortex Waterfall at Changi Airport
We saved the best attraction at Jewel Singapore airport for last.
The giant indoor waterfall is the tallest indoor waterfall in the world.
It’s a monster-sized 40 metres tall!
This waterfall has a dual purpose.
The Jewel Waterfall Show of Lights and Sound
At night, the water becomes the theatre screen for an hourly light and sound show projection.
Starting at 7.30pm, and repeating on the hour until 11.30pm, the light show at Changi airport is a vision of colour and technology.
The beauty of it makes me happy to be alive at this time in history.

The cost for baggage store in Singapore airport per 24 hours is:
- S$10 per item for small items below 10kg, or

It’s the only time that taking carry-on luggage is your downfall, as you have to pay for each piece.
Our 3 bags plus two backpacks cost us S$60 in total to store for the 6 hours we spent in Canopy Park at Changi airport. (See our tip below!)
Where to leave your luggage at Changi airport?
Hot tip: If you are only overnighting in Singapore, pack one small bag with one change of clothes for each person, plus toothbrushes, and keep that with you.

You need comfortable shoes (covered shoes are good), plus t-shirts and shorts or trousers for most of the attractions, especially the Sky Nets.
Where to eat at Jewel

Singapore Airlines Bassinet Size
Request an airplane bassinet at the time you book your infant plane ticket. There’s only a few bassinets on board, so don’t miss out.
It’s first come, first served.
The benefit of booking a bassinet on plane is that you will sit in the bulkhead, so you’ll have more room for your legs to stretch out.
The downside is that your tray table folds out from inside the armrest, and that can be a big pain!
The TV screen folds out from under your seat too, as it can’t be fixed to the wall in front.
The Singapore Airlines baby bassinet size is 768mm (L) x 298mm (W) x 158mm (H).
The toddler bassinet weight limit is a baby or toddler up to 14kg in weight.

Yes, you can take a compact foldable light-weight stroller (like the light & fabulous Pockit stroller pictured above) onboard.
The travel stroller must meet:
- Singapore standard cabin bag dimensions (up to 7kg and sum of length, width and height should not exceed 115cm), AND

Obviously, you can’t use it INSIDE the plane during the flight.
If you take it onboard, the stroller counts as 1 piece of cabin baggage.
Bigger strollers need to be checked in, but they go free!
